Despite tourism is booming in this small community, it still offers a uniquely beautiful, unspoilt natural landscape. The reason is that Werfenweng is THE model destination for "Sustainable Mobility - Car Free Tourism" since 1997, offering a special soft-mobility-inclusive-card "SAMO-Card".

Werfenweng has received several awards like the "Future in the Alps" by CIPRA or the Energy Globe for his efforts to achieve sustainable development. It is a member of Alpine Pearls.

Summer activities include for instance hiking, alpine pastures and mountain huts, mountaineering, mountain biking on E-bikes, nordic walking, swimming, horse-drawn carriage, paragliding, or panoramic walks. Winter activities contain skiing, ski touring, snowshoeing, horse-drawn sleigh rides, and sledding.
